Must…have…sleep!!!

A little over a year ago, on April 27, 2013, I lost my father and I miss him very much. He suffered from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Even through the progression of his disease he remained as jovial and caring as he was for 92 years. I was fortunate in that respect.

About two months before his passing he fell and broke his back. The pain and suffering were hard to watch. He needed 24 hour care and Hospice became involved. Nighttime was difficult as his caretakers watched him repeatedly try to get out of bed with no success and little sleep. Sleep was hard to come by, yet extremely important. It was at this moment I was actually able to utilize one of our very own solutions to help my father rest: The Thevo Relief® sleeping system from Germany.

This patented and very unique system has a high success rate when it comes to helping patients (and their caregivers) get they rest they need. In my father’s case we needed to remove his bed and replaced it with a hospital bed. My staff delivered the Thevo® mattress and about three days later the hospice nurses noticed that my father was sleeping through the night. They were so impressed with how it helped him, they began to suggest this sleeping system to others.

Sleep solutions exist in many forms. The Thevo® mattress system is patented worldwide and uses a technology called Micro-Stimulation®. This unique system consists of a support surface of suspension through paddles (for lack of a better term). On top of that is a very uniquely designed foam mattress that comes in different configurations and densities based on the user’s weight and diagnosis. The system has been developed for those suffering from dementia, Parkinson, children and adults with Cerebral Palsy, pain, and spinal cord injury. Although we make no claim that these systems work for everyone, we do see success for well over 50% of those who use it. Success is defined by better sleep patterns (5 hours instead of 2 or 3), willingness to be more involved with activities, and less agitation. For many these results not only help the end-user but those who care for them.

I remember we were displaying at a rehabilitation show in Baltimore, Maryland. I noticed a mother pushing her young adult stroller eagerly to our booth. Shortly before entering our booth her emotions building. Emotions of gratitude, the Thevo system she purchased for her daughter was working. She said “her family was now sleeping, for the first time in 8 years.” It was a very emotional and rewarding experience.

Again, this solution is not a guarantee but we have witnessed a lot of successes with the Thevo Relief® sleeping system. Contact us to see if this is something that can work for you, your patients, or your loved ones.
